Dorset: One Year on Raw

Dorset is our senior girl. A year ago, she was carrying extra weight, she was slowing down, and she was the dog who reacted to everything — itchy, uncomfortable, hot spots that kept coming back.

We changed one thing. Her food.

She went onto a species-appropriate raw diet — real meat, bone, and organ, the way dogs are built to eat. No kibble. No fillers. Nothing she didn’t need.

One year later, here’s what we see:

The weight came off. Not from a diet food, not from cutting her meals down to nothing. She eats real food, she’s satisfied, and the excess weight went with it.

The energy came back. She’s a senior, and she acts like it in all the good ways — settled, steady — but the spark is there again. She’s up, she’s interested, she’s part of everything.

The reactions stopped. No allergic reactions. No hot spots. For a dog who used to react to everything, that’s the change we notice most.

Dorset isn’t a puppy, and raw didn’t make her one. What it did was give her body what it actually runs on. Dogs are built for raw meat, bone, and organ — and when you feed the dog in front of you what she’s designed to eat, the results stop being surprising.

We filmed her year in review on our YouTube channel (Beaver Tail Raw) if you want to see her for yourself.

If you’ve got a senior dog who’s slowing down, gaining weight, or itching through life, it might not be age. It might be the bowl.
