Winter is coming, and that means more time indoors — for you and for your dog. A bored dog inside finds its own entertainment, and it’s usually your baseboards, your boots, or your couch.
That’s where a real chew earns its keep.
What it is
Our beaver tails are exactly what they sound like: the tail of a wild-harvested Canadian beaver, cleaned and dehydrated. Nothing added, nothing sprayed on, no flavouring painted over it to make it interesting. It doesn’t need any. A beaver tail is dense, flat, and leathery by nature — built by an animal that uses it as a tool, a prop, and a warning slap on the water.
One ingredient. One animal. That’s the whole ingredient list.
Why it lasts
Most chews fail in one of two ways: they’re gone in four minutes, or they’re so processed you have to wonder what your dog actually ate.
A dehydrated beaver tail is neither. The texture is tough and fibrous, so a dog has to work at it — chewing, tearing, settling in. That’s the point. Chewing is not a bad habit to break; it’s a need to fill. A chew that lasts gives your dog a job, burns off restless energy, and keeps teeth busy on something that isn’t furniture.
Because it’s a novel protein, it also works for dogs who react to the usual lineup. Chicken and beef chews are everywhere, and they’re the proteins dogs react to most. Beaver is one most dogs have simply never had.
Whole, half, or slices — which one?
- Whole tail ($20) — for big dogs and serious chewers. The full job.
- Half tail ($15) — for medium dogs, or a first try with a strong chewer.
- Slices ($10) — smaller pieces for smaller dogs, lighter chewers, or anyone who wants to test the waters before committing to a whole tail.
Not sure? Start with slices. You’ll know within one chew whether your dog is a grazer or a demolition crew, and you can size up from there.
A few honest notes
Supervise your dog with any chew — that’s not fine print, that’s just how chews work. Give it on a surface you can wipe down, and put what’s left in the fridge between sessions if your dog doesn’t finish it. When a piece gets small enough to swallow whole, it’s done — take it away.
And yes, it’s a real animal product, so it smells like one. Your dog will consider that a feature.
Stock up before the snow does
Tails are seasonal, like everything we trap. When this batch is gone, it’s gone until the next one.
